Layout and Design
I laid out and designed more than 500 display ads. From business card size to
full pages, in magazines and directories, I churned them out. This is very similar
to Ad Copy, but sometimes the words were provided and I did the design and
layout. Or sometimes I did both. Or sometimes I provided the words and someone
else did the layout and design. So it was sort of the same, yet different. And
laying out ads is different than words. Often the two skills are not combined,
because artists and designers are one sort of people and mind, and writers are
another sort of people and mindset. Rarely do the two meet. It was a breeze for
me, and that of course caused consternation among the pure design and pure
writer crowds. They either considered me a traitor to "our" cause, or they
considered me an interloper to "my" work. In either event it was best I didn't work
too closely with many people. That made life easy to some degree.
