And, then we can correlate this culture spectrum to our political spectrum. In those
systems politically defined as Statist, or leftist, are also those with the most
prohibitions on culture of one type and the forcing upon the populace of another
type. Those countries, or systems, on the right, or individualistic side, use little force
and prohibit little activity.
It is possible for a system to be farther left culturally or politically so, and not
necessarily at the same distance left ward. That becomes nit-picking which
escapes our purpose here. (And more on this later.)
Culture in the broader sense, as in Saudi Culture vs. California Culture vs. Peruvian
Andes Culture, is of a different sort of problem. Though in many ways also left --
right politically. English Episcopalianism is much more tolerant of diversity than
Shiite Muslims. And these leftist cultures are more repressive. Whether there is a
way to currently change them is doubtful.
Each system, while being similar, is at its own pace. In its own context. And what
might seem weird, or "repressive" to us is in fact, on analysis, the just different
working of human diversity. Other practices lean in one direction or another more
than the overarching theory of morality, i.e., not forcing people or prohibiting people,
would allow.
The strict ban against alcohol in Saudi Arabia is "leftist" though the degree of
consensus within the culture on this item can not be ignored, is very high. And the
right to leave the county is available. The issue of religious based systems will be
dealt with next. For it stems from culture.
There is a practical limit to what might be done to alter some cultures. The
communications revolution poses a better and stronger chance than ever seen
before. Indeed, this revolution is what led to all the revolutions -- the wholesale
changes, in 1989 - 1992 world wide. The moving rightward of these culture, political
& economic systems is evidence of the power of this revolution.
But, again, there is no doubt that each person has a right to survive as he sees fit
and do what they want so long as they harm no others. And also that many nations
possess cultures that have not moved sufficiently into a more modern mold. But this
is a book of theory not policy moves.
The causes of the Bosnia war are deep seated leftist cultures with more modern
socialist theory helping along with more wrong thinking. Such solutions as
potentially available are not possible until the participants come to grips with the
paradigm shift. They see their problems, they just will not do the necessary steps.
Religion, perhaps the oldest force in the world, also lies on a left right continuum,
based on an adherence to a text, or oneness, or a fundamentalist view. A
controlling view:
