Socialism Is the system created by Karl Marx. You can not be a
"socialist" if you don't believe in what Karl Marx offered as a world
view. He invented the word. The wrote the manual -- The
Communist Manifesto.
All Socialists will tell you that they are not communists -- they are
socialists. And what is the difference? Socialism is, according to
Marx, a period of time; a historical era. This inevitable period of
time that is brought about my the twin forces of technology and the
alienation which builds up during Capitalism. Marx clearly defined the
when and where of the previous eras of human history -- primative,
feudal, mercantile, capitalist -- which was what he thought he was
living in at the time.
So, as Capitalism is necessarily overthrown by the workers, who
have been alienated from the capitalists -- the system becomes
socialist -- and the socialists step into to run the system. And the
sole purpose of socialism is to set the stage for communism. Marx sets
out the program -- actually provides a 10 step program. Most of the
world has enacted most of them. The United States as adopted at
least 7, some in a watered down form.
And what is this list? It is nothing more than what any King or
Emperor or other self-styled God-appointed ruler would want --
complete control of the economy and the politics, the very lives of
the people. There is not a whit's difference between the ten
socializing steps and the steps taken by any statist ruler. Once again,
we can see that Karl Marx was pining for the same thing that the King
Of England wanted -- absolute control. And they both claimed the
same source -- Received Wisdom and Knowledge. They simply
claimed that there was some force in the air, floating around
independent of all human action -- and it settled on them. Thus they
had the right to rule.
So there are people running around the monarchies of Europe
who are Socialists -- and they are involved in every bit as
"Mercantilist" system, as the text books would show it -- and doing
what Kings would do -- and so they are all the same thing. What
words are used differently is merely a fog obscuring the issue.
Socialists are then, just the same group of individuals who want
power over other people. They shift the words around to make it
look like they are doing it for the good of the people -- and yet it is
really for the good of themselves.
Oddly, the only way for socialism to ever "work" has been the
technological advances brought about by individual effort, which
have then been appropriated
