Josef Javurek was born in Tabor, the ancient seat of the Hussite Armies against the Catholic Church.
Eventually he moved to Prague. And then, for probably anti-state activities it was suggested that he scurry
away, so off to America he went, arriving in 1923. He promptly joined the US Army to get his citizenship on
the fast track. He was a great artist. See some of his art
here.
It turned out that there was enough art to give to all his grandkids, which I took care of, sending them
each one piece.
He was a counsellor at Sokol Camp in East Haddam Connecticut, a Czech camp. That's where he met
Antonia Herel. They were married in 1930. Apparently three times, too. Once at City Hall for the law, once
at a Catholic Church for the Church and once at a Jan Hus Church for God. They were taking no chances.

The too lived in Middle Village, Queens. Until they moved out to Huntington Long Island in the first years of
the 1950s. Then in the late '60s they moved to Cresthaven in West Palm Beach Florida. He died in 1979.
