The United States should move towards actively promoting the
demilitarization of whole regions and countries. Starting with Central America
and Mexico -- for what do they need an army? National pride? Is it something to
be proud that your people are leaving as fast as they can while those remaining
live in poverty? All to support an army, air force and navy that under no
conceivable circumstances that country would ever be using.
To those who argue that guerillas and insurgencies would run rampant if the
militaries were disbanded I would point out that the billions spent on armaments
and materials and maintaining the army would be far better spent by the people
themselves in the pursuit of peace and harmony and happiness.
