The Political Spectrum
The current notion of the political spectrum as a left - right continuum is only 240 years
old, based on the seating arrangements in a temporary French parliament of 1789.
On the left is said to be Communism, which is massive and total government, on the right
is said to be Fascism, which is massive and total government. No where on this spectrum
is limited government, and we must somehow always be vigilant in making sure we don't
swing too far in either direction
The true political spectrum is total government on one side, and no government on the
other.
What the names of the total government systems are called are legion, from Communism,
Socialism, Nazism, Fabianism, Fascism, Royalism, Papalism, Empire, and many many
more, it makes no different by what name: Statism -- the idea that the state and those who
run it should have control over the lives of individuals.
There is no ready name for the opposite of statism. Individualism comes closest, except
that there is nothing wrong with individuals coalescing into cooperative groups, which
seems to fly against the idea of individualism. No government also has the connotation of
anarchy, which is often portrayed as no societal control, and this individuals will not even
do, for we are social animals, and will cooperate freely given the chance, and the right.
