Practicalism

The world is a messed up place, brought about by millennia of wrong ideas

No place on earth is immune from problems

Some of those problems are natural, such as tsunamis and earthquakes

Some are from history: from ancient empires to colonialism to Post World War II
experiences

Some are cultural: Western European and American hubris, Asian conformity, Muslim
slavish adherence

Some are violent: war, revolutions, terrorism and incursions

Some are economic: control of wealth, efficiency of wealth creation, disparity and poverty

Some are political: one party rule, multiparty rule, corruption

Some are home grown: some come from the outside.

Few people come up with practical solutions, but instead engage in political solutions of
transferring political power from one group to another while the laws and customs stay the
same

On each locale on earth, all these factors play a role, intertwined

In order to understand why we are in the mess we are in one must understand the great
sweep of history, and know why the 196 nations and about 150 non-national jurisdictions
are in the situation they are in and how they got there, and how they interact with all the
other places.

It is a complex situation

Include all other players: media, business, education, NGOs, dissidents, irredentists, and
individuals, and it is even more complex

Know that it is impossible to know every particular, and that every other individual,
however situated is in the exact same conundrum:

imperfect knowledge in a multi-player game with shifting rules with no end, coupled with
emotion and faith
