Every time I stepped
out of the bank with
some pesos in my hand
from the ATM this is
what I saw -- and I
passed through this
park and down this
street daily. The church
is modeled on ancient
themes but was built in
the 1920s. This is the
Plaza de la Republica,
and to the left, out of
sight, is City Hall.
For those not
inclined to formal
religion one could
sit on the seawall or
at a seaside
restaurant or bar
and watch the sun
set every night. It
was spectacular.
The three islands in
the distance are
nature preserves,
free from all
development. They
loom rather
incongruously right
off shore.
